What is Recreational Therapy?
If your loved one is under-stimulated or living an isolated life, they may benefit greatly from recreational therapy. Recreational therapy utilizes recreational and other activities to intervene in the onset of physical, mental, emotional, and/or social disabilities. Our recreational therapists work with residents to improve their physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure skills, so they may improve their current health conditions.
We use many different types of therapeutic recreation activities, including:
At Ebenezer communities, we offer family bingo and other activities that allow families to enjoy the company of their loved ones, play a familiar game, and become acquainted with the Ebenezer family. We also offer tea time, as well as various other social events that encourage our residents to socialize with other residents. Our games include famous faces, which is a program that provides pictures, facts, and a discussion of famous people, and a plethora of other table games and hobby stations. For those interested in learning a new or improving an old talent, we offer floral arranging, woodworking, crafts, baking, and many other creative opportunities.
By participating in recreational activities such as these, our residents can reduce depression, anxiety, and stress, while improving their cognition, motor-coordination skills, and relationships with family and friends. We strive to make our residents' "golden years" the best. Our recreational therapists and activities directors encourage elderly residents who are withdrawn or suffer from any type of disability and/or illness to participate.
